Finally, a knitting movie! YARN: The Movie is not just a movie, but a virtual knitting odyssey beginning in Iceland and working its way around the world. It presents knitting and yarn craft as serious modern art (right?!?) and explores its Renaissance-like rise in popularity in recent years. “Yarn” is directed by Icelandic director Una Lorenzen and has been nominated for many awards worldwide. It features original prose by Barbara Kingsolver and the work of Swedish circus company, Cirkus Cirkor, whose latest project, “Knitting for Peace” is sweeping the world.
Is it possible to actually knit peace? Can a worldwide knitting for peace movement make a difference?
This is just amazing! What’s really amazing is that we can see the movie on Wednesday, October 19 in Kingston at a special screening at The Screening Room. Ticket price is $12.00. This special screening is a fundraiser for Kenya Help, founded by Kingston’s own Nancy Stevens. Door Prizes and a 50/50 draw will also be running and folks are invited to bring donations of handknit hats and socks to the event, which will be donated to Nancy for her work in Africa. Cash donations will also be accepted. If you wish to take part in this incredible event, please RSVP to shop@knittraders.com.
I know I’ll be there with my knitting…if I can take my eyes off the screen! See you there!
