This week’s yarn shop review features “Needles in the Hay”. The google description says:
“…a lovely little yarn shop in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.”
It’s true. What a lovely, beautifully curated little shop! Tiny “Needles in the Hay” is tucked into a vintage store front on Peterborough’s trendy Water Street (which is getting cooler by the minute). My first impression was of cozy homeyness inspired by the pretty, pillow-filled window seat and antique table and chairs. Knitters can settle in for a comfy knit or sit up straight for some chart knitting or knitting help.
Owner Bridget Allin has chosen samples and yarns with exquisite care and good taste. For example, look at this delicate shawl worked in buttery Hand Maiden Sea Cell.
And I’m still swooning over the yarn! Needles in the Hay stocks carefully selected color ways of Kenzie by Hikoo, Louet, (Euroflax and Gems), the divine Nuna by Mirasol and the new Highlander by Diamond Luxury. I found some Elizabeth Lavold Hempathy on sale and bought a luscious skein of Zauberball in spring-like yellow greens. I was looking forward to grabbing a skein of the amazing gradient, Gobstopper, but only one skein remained. And oooh…Indigo Dragonfly sock yarn! Bridget stocks Briggs & Little as a workhorse, backed up by Lett Lopi in lots of colors.
I’ve been following Bridget’s blog and I see that she has just received a delicious shipment of Louet Euroflax in some cool, elegant shades of cream and gray…
…and some pretty spring shades of Louet Gems 100% Merino. <sigh> Can’t wait for my next visit!
