Hello, knitters! Today, Interweave Knits Fall 2018 issue is live and with it, a new pullover, Wendell Street. I’m thrilled to be part of this great collection celebrating Harvard Square and Cape Cod, and honored to be in company with such an amazing group of designers! I’m so pleased with the styling of this pullover and with the lovely lush photos provided by Harper Point Photography.
In the Wendell Street Pullover, the tradition of a classic fisherman’s knit meets clean American elegance in a modern, reimagined maritime pullover. Lush, rope-like rounded cable motifs ripple through its yoke, slipping like water into ribbing as they move toward the hem.
I love working with cables and with this sweater was interested in exploring how cables could devolve and slip into a simple ribbed fabric. I was also keen to delve into saddle shoulder construction, which I found really exciting! It’s amazing how much can change when one rearranges simple shaping stitches. With the saddle shoulder, I was able to create a nifty little channel along the top of the shoulder on which I could showcase a pretty oval shaped cable.
Editor Meghan Babin chose a very interesting yarn for this project, Savona by Trendsetter. This is a fingering weight yarn made from upcycled woolen fibers that creates a rather unusual, kind of bumpy fabric. Due to something in the recycling process, Savona has little to no stretch and little to no loft and thus knits up in a very rustic fashion. It has a rather stiff tweedy texture with lovely pin pricks of unexpected color. The color range is excellent and very sophisticated.
Interweave Knits Fall 2018 is available online and on newsstands starting today! I hope you’ll check it out.
In other news, I hope you’ll pop in tomorrow when the new and improved Jupiter Wrap will be released. As usual, it will be free for a limited time so be sure to stop in and pick up your coupon code. Jupiter has had a bit of a facelift and a fresh new sample knit in shiny nautical colors that I hope you’ll love. It has also been resized to create a bigger cozier wrap for those chilly mornings and evenings on the shore or on the boat. See you tomorrow!
