Wow! It was even better this year! More vendors, more workshops and more food! This is such a lovely and quaint show; it takes place in an old hockey rink in a small town in Quebec. And yet, Twist offers some very sophisticated yarns, fibres, tools and accessories.
Look at these handsome drop spindles! (I though of you, Elizabeth!) They were so pretty, I was tempted to buy one despite the fact that I don’t know which end points up!
I was able to touch some gorgeous yarns which, heretofore, I’d only been able to view on-line: Biscotte & Cie, for example. Though I dearly love the Clownfish colorway, the deep, rich solids from Biscotte were the true gems.
Hedgehog Fibres, a yarn maker and dyer from County Cork in Ireland was represented at Twist by La Maison Tricoter. I am such a fan of stippling; it was extremely hard not to go home with piles of this lovely soft merino.
La Maison Tricotee from Montreal was an innovator again this year with a chubby stock of Blue Moon Fibre Arts sock yarn as well as WooBu, their dk weight wool/bamboo blend, which I had never seen. Among their new offerings was Walk Collection, exquisitely hand-crafted yarns and fleeces from creator Christina Walk in Aschaffenburg, Germany. Delicious.
While we’re on “delicious”…after our diligent work, packing, driving, unpacking, setting up and selling, Lesley decided we were due for a special dinner. We’d been hearing about the Chateau de Montebello since the moment we arrived, but hadn’t managed to find it. We thought we’d check it out. Holy smokes!!
Chateau de Montebello is a quintessential Canadian resort, the likes of which I thought had died away. Not only is the look “canoe chic”, but they offer outdoor activities, just like in the old days: hiking and horseback riding in the summer, snowshoeing and cross country skiing in the winter. It calls to mind the good looking, well dressed Harvard set who might have made this a summer destination in days gone by. There were even rows of less-than-fabulous accommodation for resort workers a la Dirty Dancing. I’d love to go for the weekend. Wish I could afford it :-/
Anyway, we’re home now and getting a jump on the next show of the season, Creativ Festival in Toronto.

When I was a young lawyer with a federal tribunal, I used to go for week-long meetings at the Chateau Montebello. Very nice! BTW, St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, NB, is another such old hotel/resort (even posher and better), and KnitEast takes place there in October. I have a room reserved…
Good thing I didn’t get to Twist. It all looks irresistible. I’ve seen the WooBu at Rhinebeck. Must try it.
