True North!

Good morning, knitters! A little chill has fallen over the Deep South today. We’re sitting at about 55 degrees. That’s seasonal for this time of year, but it’s been unseasonably warm and wet the last week or so. It’s nice to see the sun! It’s a great day to release a brand new pattern, the True North Hat.

Snowflakes falling on piney woods, pick-up hockey on frozen ponds, hot chocolate and crackling fires are all recalled in the new True North Hat. Whimsical and retro with a distinctly Canadian vibe, True North combines simple stranded knitting with smooth fields of stockinette and easy shaping to create a perfect first fair isle project. And the silky-soft tweedy texture really looks like it’s snowing!

True North is such a quick and simple hat with classic Canadian “toque” styling, great for men or women. It is worked in the round from the brim upward and features a retro-inspired four-point shaping strategy. True North knits up so fast in DK weight yarn, you’ll want one in every color! Unlike many tweeds which can be a little scratchy, Knit Picks City Tweed is known for its softness. the color range is broad and lovely and the alpaca component adds extra warmth.

To welcome True North, I’m offering a 50% discount through Friday, January 11, 2019. It’s a perfect quick gift or first fair isle project. Just pop in to my Ravelry shop, pick up True North and enter the coupon code TRULY2 at checkout. Watch for the matching True North Mittens coming later this month and don’t forget that discounts on the Lundbye Scarf and 4 sock patterns are still available through midnight tonight! Coupon codes are HERE.

Feel free to share a link to this page with your friends, but please don’t give out the coupon code. It helps me a lot when folks come here to visit. If you like these little discounts (I usually offer them on Fridays) and are interested in my work, I’d love to see you over at the Ravelry group Friends of Littlechurch Knits. ‘Til next time, happy knitting!

Cheryl

Hi! I’m a new knitter (knitting since August) and I’m obsessed with making hats. I have been lurking around your lovely website for a few months now, especially since you tantalized us with your first picture of this True North hat. It’s really amazing (I kid you not, it appeared in my dream a few weeks ago) and it’s going to be the first pattern I ever spend money on, and my first colorwork ever. Thank you so much for your effort and the inspiration it has provided. I haven’t bought the pattern yet since I have a question: I’m wondering if your pattern explains any modifications necessary for worsted-weight yarn and size 8 circulars? That’s all I own at present, and it would be nice to try out my first fair isle colorwork on familiar yarn and needles. Presumably I’d cast on fewer stitches and do fewer repeats of the tree chart; is that all there is to it? Or is there some reason why this pattern wouldn’t work except with DK yarn and size 3 needles?
