Three Easy Cowls

Three Easy Cowls

Want a showcase for pretty yarns and textured stitches? These three easy cowls make the perfect canvas. Perfectly warm and cozy, fun and quick to knit and imminently giftable, cowls make the very best deep winter knitting. And they’re great stashbusters too! Through Friday, February 18, take 30% off three easy cowl patterns in my Ravelry shop. Use coupon code EASYCOWL3 at checkout. (psssst!…be sure to read to the end! There’s a FREE BONUS for you at the end of this post 😉

COLONY COWL

The first of these three easy cowls is Colony. Look who’s had a face lift! I’ve wanted to knit Colony in a nice bright shade for quite some time, and now I’ve done it. Scarlet red is the star of the show in this easy cowl that features rows and rows of eyelets.

Three EAsy Cowls

The Colony Cowl is a real go-to! The stitch pattern is super simple yet fun to knit and produces an attractive, open fabric. “All the warmth without the weight” describes Colony perfectly. It is long enough to loop once loosely around the neck or twice snugly for those unexpectedly cool days.

Colony Cowl

Worked in worsted weight yarn, this easy cowl knits up super fast! For the redux, I selected Cloudborn Superwash Merino Twist for its softness, color fastness and easy care. Cloudborn is still available (though it is discontinued) in some amazing colors from yarn.com and lovecrafts.com. It takes exactly two skeins, which amounts to about 400-420 yards. Imagine Colony in Plum Heather, Magenta or Lagoon! At $7.99 per skein, it makes an economical gift!

YEW TREE COWL

Here’s an easy, lacy cowl that can be worked in any fingering weight yarn. Whether your yarn is self-patterning or striping, tonal, tweed or speckled, this pretty stitch pattern brings it to life.

Yew Tree Cowl

Yew Tree Cowl is a lacy ring worked in the round. It features a simple lace pattern, a pretty tree motif surrounded by a delicate diamond. This intuitive lace pattern is simple enough to knit while bingeing your favorite show, yet challenging enough to feel you’re engaged with the pattern. This soft circle is 40” in circumference which means it will hang elegantly in a single loop or wrap twice for extra coziness.

DALRYMPLE COWL

You may have seen Dalrymple recently as part of Knit Mosaic. This easy cowl makes a perfect first mosaic project and is an excellent stashbuster to boot.

Dalrymple Cowl

Thick, soft and ripply, just like the waters of Lake Dalrymple, is this easy cowl. It’s a great introduction to the mosaic technique with easy, rhythmic slip stitch movements. I’ve chosen cool, watery colors, but I believe it would be just as pretty in neutrals or in warm autumnal shades. Choosing colors is half the fun!

Dalrymple Cowl

I find that a soft but toothy yarn works best for mosaic pieces like Dalrymple. Dive into stash to look for yarns of equal weight and complimentary color. You could easily go to a DK if worsted doesn’t excite you 🙂

FREE BONUS!

Here’s something new! Through March 11, in addition to our regular Friday Features discounts, I’m going to be offering a selected pattern FREE! (It’s a little birthday gift to myself 🙂 You’ll need to pop in here to get the coupon code, but I’ll be offering a free pattern every Friday through March 11. This week’s BONUS pattern is The Big Skinny and the coupon code is BIGSK311.

The Big Skinny

Very nearly a full circle, Skinny creates soft ripples when worn with the narrow ends hanging in front, yet its circular shape is just right to hug your neck and shoulders when wrapped snugly around. A mirthful eyelet row joins the border and picks up color from a single stripe near the neck.

The Big Skinny

I hope you’ll enjoy these three easy cowls and that you’ll stay warm and happy until next time!
