Wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve had time to post! Autumn is such a crazy time for the “Cast-On-Two-Of-Everything” type of knitter. So much has happened.
- One of the best New Things is that one of my favorite blogs, Loaves and Stitches, has re-appeared after a long relocation hiatus. SO happy to have you back, Carrie!
- It was Thanksgiving here in Canada. It’s earlier here than in the US, I think because our more northerly latitude means an earlier harvest. It’s not at all connected to Christmas here in Canada which is something I sort of miss about celebrating Thanksgiving south of the 49. We eat lots, though! This year, I tried a new pumpkin pie recipe from Chatelaine, “Sky High Pumpkin Pie”. Sorry, Grams…I shall never EVER do it again. I’m sure she jinxed this pie all the way from heaven, as it was the very first (and LAST) time I’ve deviated from the family recipe. ‘Nuff said.
- I tested all of my new fall classes in one, long, exhausting weekend. Many, many thanks to the wonderful (and patient!) knitters who helped: Christine H, Christine F, Kim, Jacks, Lynda, Glenda and of course, Lesley for the use of the space and my awesome co-workers at Rosehaven. XO…MmmmWah!
- Lesley and I shipped out to Toronto for CreativFestival! We had a great time once again and met loads of wonderful and creative people. Thanks to Andrea B we had a really lovely, comfy warm and welcoming place to stay 🙂 I met some clever and fun new knitters at my Two-Color Brioche class which, I think, was a big success.
- I got to meet Kate Atherley!
- I got to meet Kate Atherley! (In case you didn’t believe it the first time.) I accosted her as she walked past our booth. Me <excited>: “Wait! You’re Kate Atherley!” She: <mock excitement>:”I know!” She was every bit as awesome as I thought she’d be, taking the time to stop and chat with Lesley and I at the Rosehaven booth.
- My friend and knitting prodigy, Mary Jane, finished an incredible (and lightning fast) test-knit of the Cockleshells Hat. It was her first crack at knitting with a chart and, of course, she vanquished it easily. Thanks to MJ, Cockleshells will be available on Ravelry very soon.
- On a sad note, we had to retire Swifty, our trusty blue swift, and replace him with Greeny, a newer model. Swifty gave us his very best every day. Though we all worked hard to keep him in one piece, Swifty’s joints finally failed him. He’ll be missed.
So, what’s next, you may ask? While sitting in the booth at CreativFestival, I started a little pair of fingerless gloves (like cowls and hats, I find I can’t have too many) based on the Barn Swallow motif in my sock pattern of the same name. These are also made in Quince & Co. Tern, this time in the Beach Glass colorway.
I have a few little bits and pieces to finish off before our Retreat in November, notably my toe-up Sugar Cube socks 🙂
I’m test knitting a nice project for a talented friend (can’t divulge more about that for now) and that’s all the news that’s fit to print!
