Picnic Socks

Spring Stripes

I’m looking out the window this morning at a cloudless blue sky, sunshine and tweety little birds singing. It’s a nice way to kick off the weekend! This will be a knitting weekend for me as I aim, full steam, at the last big deadlines looming on the horizon. What I’d like to be knitting is socks.

Patons Kroy Socks

I just love sock knitting; it’s so neatly encapsulated, a little bit formal and packed with shaping techniques. Beyond that, I love sock yarn. It’s my favorite weight and I’m fascinated by all the different colors and combinations of colors. I tend to stash sock yarn because I really have no defense against it, so I wind up with all kinds of odd skeins, stripes, variegated skeins, tonals. It’s hard to find the right project for all of them, particularly the stripes.

Picnic Socks

A couple of years ago, I came up with a sweet little striped sock pattern for the nice folks at Yarn Canada. It calls for a humble little yarn, Paton’s Kroy Sock, and I’ve chosen Meadow Stripes as the color way. I think they’d be sweet in just about any color, striped or solid. There’s a ton of technique in there – dropped stitch stripes, a little eyelet work and a picot cast on. They’re worked top down with the fast and fun shadow wrap heel. Frankly, I’d like to drop what I’m doing and make another pair!

Friend of Littlechurch KnitsThis week for your knitting pleasure, I’m offering a 50% discount on the Picnic Socks pattern. Just head over to my Ravelry shop, pop the socks into your shopping cart and enter the coupon code BUSTER4 at checkout. Then cast on! (Feel free to share a link to this page with your friends, but please don’t give out the coupon code. It helps me a lot when folks come here to visit.) If you like these little discounts (I usually offer them on Friday mornings) and are interested in my work, I’d love to see you over at the new Ravelry group Friends of Littlechurch Knits. Until we meet again, happy knitting!

How were you able to get the socks to match?

It was easy! I just started the second sock at the same point in the color rotation. (I did try, but I’m not sure they match exactly, though 😉
