It’s been a strange few weeks. It’s Carnival time here in New Orleans, though with COVID still raging it’s no where near our usual jam. With characteristic creativity and determination however, New Orleanians are finding brand new ways of celebrating.
There’s the “House Float”. This is an idea that has really caught on. Houses all over town are decorated to look like parade floats. They are EVERYWHERE!
This little house, lovingly called “Cactus Corner” because of the enormous succulents grown on the sidewalk has been transformed into a “Monarch Marshland” and even has its float number, 31. Many of the house floats in the Bayou St. John area have marine or wetlands themes.
The bayou is so beautiful at this time of year. Through some mystery of nature, we get these beautiful fogs. I took the first photo on my way to Mass yesterday morning at about 6:30 am and the second on my way home.
I find the dampness and leaden gray skies so lovely, and such an exciting counterfoil to our usual warm sunniness. It’s also camellia season! Look at this specimen I found while walking along the bayou this morning.
Knitting in Cheryl’s world has been interesting too. The past couple of weeks have focused on the nuts and bolts of things, like schematics and grading and yarn requirements. I’ve been working steadily a project that must remain strictly secret…
…and one that I’m please to say will launch on Friday, February 12!! Yup! The Octavia Wrap finally comes to life on Friday morning. There will be a nice little discount for newsletter subscribers, so be sure to sign up on the side bar. I’m really delighted to present this light but super warm woolen spun shawl and I hope you’ll enjoy it too! See you Friday!
