Olwen Revisited

Good morning, knitters! This is the third foggy morning in a row here in New Orleans. The fog here is truly beautiful; it blurs away any jagged edges from a city that is often better viewed at night. And it’s warm! It is necessary to have warm temperatures in order to create this special New Orleans brew. Something about the air being warmer than the river?

As I mentioned earlier in the week, I have a nifty, natty new cardigan coming back into my catalogue this week. The Olwen Cardigan, originally published by Knit.Wear, was a response to the theme of Hygge, the Danish art of coziness. White chocolate, candles, blankets that are warm and handsome, hot drinks with foamy froth on top, vanilla marshmallows, cakes and tea…like that!

Danish modern in feel, Olwen combines a clean and striking post-modern shape with soft, wintery texture. It is square and spare of form, but with all the rough edges polished off.

Deep woven ribbing edges a subtle pillow-like diamond pattern to create an easy surface energy, while cleverly inset pockets provide striking detail. Olwen features a relaxed drop shoulder shape that reinforces its clean boxy lines and provides lots of room for layering. I-cord edges the pockets and creates after-thought buttonholes at the front opening.

Olwen is worked in one of my all-time favorite yarns, Berroco Ultra Alpaca. I am always amazed at the price of this yarn given its luxurious hand and quality blend of pure wool and alpaca. The color range is very broad, with sophisticated solids, muted heathers and rich mixes. It wears extremely well and is truly pleasant to knit. I love it so much, I’ve just ordered a few skeins in “Zephyr” for a sample knit of my new hat/cowl combo to be released this month. Can’t wait for it to arrive!

Before we get to today’s deal, remember that the You Need a Cardi sale is still running until midnight tonight as well! It features a 50% off coupon on the Martha and Caroline cardigans. Don’t miss it! Coupon code is YOUNEEDIT.

Friend of Littlechurch KnitsToday, I’d like to offer the Olwen Cardigan free of charge until midnight tonight, Friday, November 9, 2018. I hope you’ll enjoy knitting Olwen as much as I did. Just head over to my Ravelry shop, pop the Olwen Cardigan into your shopping cart and enter the coupon code NEWCARDI3 at checkout. Then cast on! (Feel free to share a link to this page with your friends, but please don’t give out the coupon code. It helps me a lot when folks come here to visit.) If you like these little discounts (I usually offer them on Friday mornings) and are interested in my work, I’d love to see you over at the new Ravelry group Friends of Littlechurch Knits. Until we meet again, happy knitting!

Thank you! Although a whole cardigan is a little daunting…I found some alpaca in my stash that is currently going into a pair of socks and it is lovely to work with. Have you ever visited the alpaca farm north of Port Hope? I drive past periodically and marvel at the fuzzy four-leggers in their runs.
