New! Rhizome Pullover

Good morning, knitters! Last week when I introduced you to my new Crystal Pullover, I may have mentioned that the Winter 2019 issue of Interweave Knits, the Science Issue, carried two of my designs. Today, I’d like to share a little about the second, the Rhizome Pullover. This issue is available now in print and digitally.

I had such a good time with this sweater! The color work motif is super intuitive and fun to work and the yarn was a dream . With the theme centering around the Sciences, I focused on botany for the Rhizome Pullover. This motif is meant to suggest the movement of the underground stems and root of plants like the iris.

Like subterranean stems and cell structures underground, the Rhizome Pullover represents with mesmerizing color work the biology of floral propagation.

Rhythmic and helix-like, watery ribbons of color move over a neutral backdrop from bust to hem in this top down sweater, while a solid yoke and an open neckline complete an uncomplicated look. Raglan shaping and 3”of positive ease create a simple yet sophisticated shape.

This gorgeous yarn by Stitch Sprouts was a new yarn to me, but one I’d love to use again. These are Hebgen Lake and Coyote. Stitch Sprouts Yellowstone, a sport weight, is a simple blend of wool and silk with a very drapey, silky hand. It functioned beautifully for the color work of this pullover. Available colors are muted and sophisticated and inspired by the American wilderness. Can’t wait to use it again. I’ve got my eye on these two shades, Reese Creek and Caldera.

I hope you’ll enjoy Rhizome! I’m grateful to Harper Point Photography for their wonderful work and to the good people at Interweave Knits for allowing me to contribute.

And don’t forget…the Sackets Harbor Hat and Mittens are on sale through Friday, December 14, 2018! The hat pattern is free with purchase of the mitten pattern. It’s a quick and satisfying knit. Tune in tomorrow for some work in progress and a sneak peek at an upcoming new release. ‘Til then, happy knitting!
