More is … More!

Occasionally, I like to surf around Pinterest while I’m having my coffee in the morning. (Those are mornings when whatever is on my needles is just so entrancing that I’m afraid if I pick it up, I won’t put it down!) I like the way Pinterest serves up stuff that’s within my wheelhouse, but is still a bit of a stretch. This morning I was greeted with some really lovely sweaters, many of which were of the current trend, oversized. I’ve noticed a number of popular designers working in this vein lately and I must say…I kinda like it!

I’m intrigued by the layering capabilities of these luxurious pieces. I love the combination of soft, cool laundered cotton with the thick textured knits. Take a look at this versatile pattern, Uniform by Carrie Bostick Hoge. I love the lofty, wispy quality of the yarn next to the worn-in cotton. That lovely deep V-neck would flatter any number of necklines from a t-shirt to a button up collar. And the garter stitch….well, who doesn’t love garter stitch!

This pattern gives you knitters a lot of freedom! Pattern includes instructions for long and short body lengths, three different body shapes (fitted, a-line, or none), fitted or bell-shaped sleeves, simple or shaped neckbands, and patch or inset pockets.

As a small-ish person, I often avoid oversized styles because I find they can be a little overwhelming to wear. Really big stuff sometimes looks like it’s wearing me instead of the other way around. Boxy, the super popular pullover by Joji Locatelli solves the problem with its alluring silky drape and flattering (read: forgiving!) shape. I also appreciate the flexibility of this design. It is  offered as a worsted weight or fingering weight pattern and with seamless and seamed options. I particularly like the contrast when this sweater is paired with very skinny jeans or leggings.

Then there are times when I want something a little less slouchy, something more pulled together looking. Enter Granito, another Joji design.

I really enjoy the relaxed quality of this sweater, especially with a long fitted t-shirt or tank as an underlayer and I appreciate that Joji keeps her sleeves slim to avoid the sweater looking frumpy or as if you’ve made the wrong size. I could have fun styling this with what’s currently in my wardrobe: jeans, tights and leggings. I could see wearing this with a long black pencil skirt too, if I had to.

So I guess sometimes more IS more! Great! More ice cream for me!
