Welcome, Moonflower: A Capsule Collection
Today, I am happy to present a brand new group of patterns. Moonflower, inspired by a treasured motif, has been a long time in the making, but is finally live! Moonflower is a collaboration with the lovely people at The Fibre Co. Projects are available on Ravelry as stand-alone patterns and collectively as an eBook. Let me introduce you!
…I began to experiment with a little motif. A leaf, then a vine, then a flower emerged. They multiplied and marched in ranks. At last, I coaxed the little flowers into the circular yoke formation that has grown into a pullover, a cardigan and eventually, a wrap.
Like the vine for which it is named, Moonflower has grown! Since the original short-sleeved pullover, new variants with sleeve and shaping options have taken root.
Tiny bobbles atop swaying stems and fields of smooth stockinette combine to create this uniquely customizable cardigan. Choose from three sleeve lengths – short, bracelet or long – and opt for a straight or shaped silhouette. The Moonflower Cardigan is worked top down from a rather low and open neck and includes both written and charted directions. Knitters can purchase the entire collection as an eBook or opt for the cardigan, pullover or wrap as stand-alone patterns. (Click here for a nifty bobble tute 😉
The sweaters…
…are worked top down from a rather low and open neckline. The pullover is close-fitting with little to no ease and the cardigan (which can be worn as an outer garment) is designed with 1” – 2” positive ease. They are inclusively sized for busts ranging from 32″ – 62″. As I mentioned, the patterns include instructions for short, bracelet and full length sleeves and offer optional waist shaping. The cardigan features fast and easy one-row buttonholes.
The shawl…
…echoes the lacy, semi-circular rhythm of the sweater yokes. It is a half-circle worked from the top down beginning with a garter tab. The pretty bobbled border features a shaped and rolled edge and finishes with an Icelandic bind off.
The yarn…
…is the heavenly Luma from The Fibre Co. This gorgeous blend of pure merino, organic cotton, linen and silk is light, cool and perfect for everything from lace to cables. Truly, I’ve loved every stitch. Based in the American Deep South, I am always alert to luxury plant fibre blends like Luma. It has the perfect ingredients for warm weather knitting and, with sleeve variations, creates garments that are ideal for year-round wear. Color was also a guiding principle. The Moonflower blooms at night by the light of the moon so I’ve selected glowing shades of the night sky for each of the pieces. If you’re looking for more color, though, you won’t be disappointed.
A meditative knit…
I hope you’ll find lots to love in Moonflower! I have thoroughly enjoyed knitting every one of these sweaters. They are quiet and intuitive to knit and a pleasure to wear. Believe it or not, I’m going to knit another long sleeved one – this time in Road to China Light also by The Fibre Co. – because I think I’d like the warmth and softness. I can’t wait to see your photos!
