‘Tis the season! Time to make some mittens! I don’t think I’ll have much call to wear them in New Orleans, at least not until parade season starts, but I wanted to share these new ones with you. The Jagody Mittens are brand new and part of the Winter 2017 edition of Love of Knitting. I’m thrilled to be part of this winter collection (with a little cover inset!) and thrilled to be included with such a stellar cast of designers. Many thanks to Deborah Gerish and her multi-talented team; everyone was so generous, smart and helpful.
These are easy mittens to make. They feature a fully fashioned thumb gusset and I-cord trim and they knit up quick!
Bobbles and branches decorate these bright mittens with motifs resembling bilberry bushes. Bilberries, known as jagody in Poland, fraughan in Ireland, and whortleberries or blueberries in the United Kingdom, grow wild across northern Europe, where they’re used in summer desserts, folk remedies, and natural dyeing.
I LOVED working with Cumbria from The Fibre Co., so wooly and yet so soft and with a delicate halo. Cumbria produces excellent stitch definition (important in these bobbled mittens) and is available in tons of glorious colors.
If you order up some, you might knock out a couple pair in time for Christmas! 😉 Happy Knitting!
