It’s been a tricky few days. Mumsie fell and broke her ankle and wrist on the weekend and had surgery on Sunday…in Peterborough. So that meant a LOT of hours in the car. The weather was beautiful, though, and I got in lots of knitting time as we rolled along the road. (The skein above is a WIP in progress…a glimmer in my eye which I procured from A Needle in the Hay in Peterborough, thank you Brigit!)
Martha Cardigan
I love this sweater more every day. It’s fluffy and airy and, insomuch as I can tell, I like the way it fits. It is a boxy, cropped (for long-waisted me) lightweight cardigan that I think I’ll be able to wear three seasons depending on how it’s styled. I can certainly see wearing it with very casual cotton or linen dresses in the spring and fall and with jeans during the winter. I’ve knit the current sleeve twice, adjusting the position of the motif and deciding how much of the full motif I wanted to feature on the cuff. By George, I think I’ve got it! I have one sleeve left, plus button and buttonhole bands. I’m really excited to see this once it’s blocked. I blocked the swatch and it’s dreamy!
Blank Socks
I’m knitting these from a sock blank I picked up at KnitTraders in Kingston. Though I didn’t love the look of the blank, I’m quite impressed with the color way as it knits up. I’d intended these simple, waffle-textured socks for Carl but then, to my horror, discovered I’d only cast on 64 stitches which is what I generally cast on for myself. This would be fine; I could just change the intended recipient from Carl to ME, except that I’m knitting a Fleegle heel which means that I knit a big ‘ol long foot before I started increasing for the heel. <sigh> I’ll frog back to the correct foot length (for me) then begin the heel increases again. Bit of a bummer but not so bad as ripping out the whole thing and starting over with Carl’s 72 stitches.
Tahiti Wrap
I think I mentioned before that I woke up last weekend with a fully formed shawl in my head which was made from a skein of SMC Tahiti I had lurking in my stash. Not only did I need another skein, the shawl, in its current incarnation, bears absolutely NO resemblance to the shawl of my dreams. Pretty, though, I think. I’ll get back to you with this one.
FPF Shawl
Here’s something I’m working on for a Free Pattern Friday pattern. That is all I can divulge at this time 😉
So…in epilogue, Mumsie will be okay. I’m heading out now to visit her 🙂 And despite a weird weekend, I’m showing a little progress anyway! Happy Knitting!

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom, but how lucky you both are that you are able to go spend time with her. Best wishes for a swift and complete recovery.
The little glimpses of your Martha cardigan are very intriguing, and those glorious cheery sunrise colors you are working on would be enough to brighten even the most dismal mood.

I do love neutrals, but my goodness, a girl needs a little cheer from time to time 😉
