One of my favorite things about the changing of the seasons are the new, seasonal knitting magazines. We see them standing neatly at attention in their racks in bookstores, fabric stores and grocery stores and somehow, it gives one hope. They remind us of the inevitable warming, lengthening of days, the coming of spring and the fact that, yes, we will someday knit with linen again. <sigh>
Today I have a little taste of spring for you. The latest issue of Creative Knitting is available on newsstands now and in it my new Lanai Tee!
There are few things more versatile than a classic tee, especially when it is knitted to an open airy gauge and worked in a fresh spring fiber. Add a dash of sophistication with a softly draped neckline, cap sleeves and shape skimming silhouette and you’ve got the Lanai Tee. It looks great with well-laundered jeans, a skirt in soft cotton or denim, even cropped pants or shorts.
Wanting a simple, sleeveless tee in a drapey fabric, I chose Quince & Co Sparrow, a smooth, crisp 100% linen yarn spun in Italy from organic Belgian linen. This smooth, slightly stringy yarn turns to butter after the first washing and continues to soften with wear. It is equally delightful to knit. The color range, as with all Quince and Co. products, is broad and sophisticated; you’ll have a hard time choosing one. I tend to gravitate toward the blues, and with a life long love of indigo, chose this denimy shade: pigeon. I liked it so well that when the yarn arrived for the sample, I immediately ordered more for my stash. It rests wrapped in Quince & Co. brown paper awaiting its next assignment. So there you go! Spring shall spring!
