DK Wrap Project

Lake Effect!

I must admit, I’m a little late to the ball in posting about this project. Lake Effect was released by SweetGeorgia Yarns as part of Fall with SweetGeorgia, Vol 5, while I was away in France. I don’t want to let this gorgeous shawl slip past you!

This simple, homey wrap of generous proportions is perfect near the lake, by the sea and for wrapping up in one or two at a time. It’s not too open (for keeping out those damp breezes) and it’s not too fancy, just perfectly rustic, squishy and soft.

A classic triangle, Lake Effect makes the perfect travel knitting project with simple stockinette and slipped stitches forming the main body and an easy garter -rich openwork pattern framing the edge. Begun with a stretchy open edge and finished with pretty picot, Lake Effect has a solid geometric firmness and stability that is pretty and practical and super fun to knit.

I love working with SweetGeorgia Yarns. Not only are they extraordinary dyers, but they are so willing to explore new uses for their yarns and new riffs on favorite forms. I loved working an old fashioned, homey motif into a modern DK weight project. Sweet Georgia loves to turn ideas on their heads in such subtle and loving ways!

I can’t say enough about their Superwash DK. It is just so dreamy and features such an artful twist. It is beautiful for shawls and I can’t wait to have a whole sweater made out of it all to myself and worked in one of Sweet Georgia’s fabulous fall color ways.

You can see the entire Fall with SweetGeorgia collection here. It features some really special designs for garments and accessories. You can read all about the new Look Book here. You’ll have a tough time choosing!
