Mosaic color work is a bit of a sleeper! Why not knit mosaic this week? It’s much easier than stranded color work, involves no floats and can be worked flat or in the round. It’s as easy as knitting stripes, yet can form some very complex patterns. Through Friday, February 4, I’m offering 30% off three mosaic patterns from my Ravelry shop. Just use the coupon code MOSAIC3 at checkout. Here they are!
CRAGHILL
This shawl is a true favorite of mine because it is SO much fun to knit. The hardest part is choosing three gorgeous Hudson + West Co colors to knit with! Worked in soft, silky Weld, you’ll be sad when it’s finished 🙂
An, addictive tile-like mosaic pattern is the main event in the Craghill Shawl. Little cubes appear like tiny pillows on a wide swathe of thin stripes that shrink and swell. Borders and bands of garter stitch add structure and graphic control to this exuberant three-color fabric.
Two row stripes contribute an element of order too, and create space for a third color. Craghill is a squishy, lightweight shawl that is worked from a garter tab outward and features eyelets and garter stitch. It ends in a thin roll of reverse stockinette.
CABANA
Wrap up in it, snuggle under it, curl up in it. It’s a generously sized modified triangle, fluffy and cozy, that is absolutely fascinating to knit in silky soft Sweet Georgia DK!
This shape-shifting modified triangular wrap uses three engaging pattern sections, mosaic, mesh, and drop-stitch rib to create a large, snuggly wrap. Its long edge is trimmed in color and its pointy end finishes in a big fluffy tassel.
Cabana is worked from the wide edge starting with a deep border of vertical open work. Add a favorite color and move into some mesmerizing mosaic color work. Garter bands frame a mesh panel, then it’s stockinette in the home stretch.
DALRYMPLE
Here’s a simple, bite-sized way to knit mosaic. Perfect for the first time mosaic knitter, this easy cowl uses three colors to create sinuous wavy lines.
Thick, soft and ripply, just like the waters of Lake Dalrymple, is the Dalrymple Cowl. It’s a great introduction to the mosaic technique with easy, rhythmic slip stitch movements. I’ve chosen cool, watery colors, but I believe it would be just as pretty in neutrals or in warm autumnal shades. Your choice!
Any worsted weight yarn will work, making this humble ring an excellent stash buster. And, it’s a quick and interesting knit, perfect for gift giving.
I hope you’ll enjoy knitting this interesting and satisfying form of color work and that it will present an opportunity for lots of fun color play!
