Knit A Cotton Sofa Throw

Cool Summer Blues: The Larkshead Throw

Through Friday, August 19, take 30% off the Larkshead Throw pattern when you knit a cotton sofa throw! This easy cotton throw blanket is a perfect late summer project. It has just enough complexity to keep you engaged on those long summer evenings.

Larkshead Throw

I just love the bohemian chic of cotton, especially in cool relaxing shades of blue! Its easy-moving, tactile silkiness is at once exotic and earthy, timeless and modern. When I designed this cotton sofa throw, I wanted to combine the casually exotic qualities of cotton with more complicated and formal stitch movement. These rhythmic cable panels float above a simple backdrop of reverse stockinette.

This cool cotton throw blanket is inspired by macrame!

Ultimately, I wanted Larkshead to suggest the boho look of macrame. I’ve chosen diamond and lattice patterns that so often adorn the surfaces of macrame wall hangings augmented with solid “rods” worked of I-cord and 3-stitch twisted cables. Finished with knotted fringe, the Larkshead Throw represents something cool yet sophisticated with on-trend appeal.

Knit a Cotton Throw

Here’s a technique that works up well in cotton and cotton blends: double knotted fringe! The Larkshead Throw pattern includes detailed instructions on how to create this attractive finish. Use it to jazz up scarves, shawls, blankets and wraps. It’s a quick and easy way to add a polished edge.

A very special cotton blend.

Knit this cotton sofa throw in KnitPicks Cotlin, an earthy blend of cotton and linen that is available in a wide range of sophisticated colors. It combines the luscious drape of linen with the cozy loft of cotton. If you love plant based fibers, here are some other suggestions.

Cabled Cotton Throw

Tanguis (tan-gwiss) cotton has a very soft hand, excellent absorption and, because it is a naturally white fiber, a high affinity for dyes. The Belgian linen adds the characteristic flecks and additional absorbency with very low elasticity – helping to alleviate stretching in the finished knit. Summer linen has an extended growing period which results in a longer, stronger fiber. When blended with the already strong Tanguis cotton, it makes a durable, wearable, and soft yarn. The knit fabric will get softer with each wash too.

If you recall, I used Cotlin for my Fair Haven Picnic Blanket back in July of 2016. My love for this yarn has not dimmed a single bit!

I'd love to hear from you!
