First, the Ammonite Top, a flared top with a pretty shirt tail hem.
Inspired by scallop-shaped ammonite fossils that lay frozen in time beneath the ocean waves is the Ammonite Top. It begins with an unexpected openwork hem that is coaxed into a shirt-tale shape using short rows. Ammonite is worked seamlessly upward to a wide rounded neckline trimmed in garter stitch. Its subtle swinging shape, ends just below the waist on the sides and a little longer at the front and back.
Tipsy Knitters co-founder Lauren Griffiths did the heavy lifting on this one. Many tweaks and changes of my mind did not unsettle this Tipsy Knitter, nor did any of the interesting techniques used in the Ammonite Top. Short rows, deep lace work, a three-needle bind off are all used to shape this whimsical top. Thanks, Lauren, for a stunning job!
Ammonite is worked in the heavenly soft CashLux Fine, a blend of merino, cashmere and a little nylon for durability. The color way is Dreamboat. How aptly named! Cashlux has an incredible hand, silky soft with luxurious drape and tender stitch definition. It does the sweetest things with garter stitch.
