Hiya, Marion!

Welcome to my Picnic, knitters! I intend to spend the month of June exploring bright colors, summer fibers, stripes and checks with a focus on transitional knits, pretty tee’s and tanks. The seasons finest fibers include cotton, linen, bamboo, hemp and all kinds of blends. I believe I made a promise on Wednesday that there would be a yummy new release today for your weekend knitting pleasure. Well, sure enough, enter Marion, a transitional tee in a great spring and summer fiber blend.

Last summer while parked in the vast grassy lot at the Sterling Renaissance Faire, I took on a co-pilot. She was a big, fat spider, an Orb Weaver to be specific, and she was the most dedicated knitter you can imagine. She knitted and re-knitted her web after all sorts of trials and tribulations. Thunder storms, gale force winds, hundreds of highway miles at top speed, even the car wash; nothing could shake Marion. She’d tuck herself up safely in my rearview mirror and emerge to inspect and repair the damages to her web during the night when she’d be safe from predators like birds or small boys. I got really attached to her. We weren’t separated until we got back to the steamy heat of the bayou. In praise of Marion and all of us who “knit on though all crises”, here’s a pretty tee. I’d like to thank sample/test knitter Rosalind for her really great work on Marion. I can’t wait to see your photos, Rosalind!

A youthful, modern shape and a bright spring yarn characterize the Marion Tee. With a lilting, slightly swingy silhouette and delicate inset lace panels that are graduated in length, Marion makes a great go-to pop top for everything from jeans to shorts to casual skirts. It is sleeveless with sweet picot edging and features a wide bateau neck. Upper and lower edges end in a crisp picot hem that provides a little structure for the A-line shape. Worked in soft and silky Bamboo Pop, every lacy stitch is defined while the overall effect remains cool and breezy. Marion is worked from the bottom up and makes for a quick and easy knit with enough interest to delight the knitter.

Bamboo Pop by Universal Yarn

Bamboo Pop is fast becoming a favorite yarn of mine. It is very much a wearable blend here in the south and comes in great colors, not just for summer but for warm weather knits that can be worn into September and October. (I can’t believe they’ve named this color “Rose”, though…it’s actually a hot tangerine color). It’s the softest blend of cotton and bamboo and is puffy and lofty. Bamboo Pop allows for great stitch definition and is super cool to wear and a snap to launder.

Friend of Littlechurch KnitsI’d like to offer the Marion Tee pattern free through the end of tomorrow, Saturday, June 16. Just head over to my Ravelry shop, pop Marion into your shopping cart and enter the coupon code SPIDER2 at checkout. Then cast on! (Feel free to share a link to this page with your friends, but please don’t give out the coupon code. It helps me a lot when folks come here to visit.) If you like these little discounts (I usually offer them on Friday mornings) and are interested in my work, I’d love to see you over at the new Ravelry group Friends of Littlechurch Knits. Until we meet again, happy knitting!
