Good morning, knitters! It’s starting to feel a bit “forty-days-and-forty-nights” around here after a few rainy days, but it’s really nice to have another warm and cozy day indoors.
Today, I want to introduce a sweet little cardigan, the Sugar Cubes Wrap Jacket, that appears in the new Playdate Collection from Knit Picks. Knitting baby things is totally new to me, but I it to be such a joy to compose in such tiny bites.
This versatile little wrap-around jacket is a treat to work in the sweet and simple Sugar Cubes stitch pattern using only knit and purl stitches. It features narrow Garter Stitch edging and raglan shaping, fronts wrapping around for extra comfort and warmth. The jacket body is worked seamlessly from the bottom up, as are the sleeves. Raglan shaping is achieved after a union row. Garter bands, including the afterthought buttonhole, are knitted in one piece with the jacket.

I’m really quite mad about Knit Picks Capretta, a yarn I’ve worked with many times in the past. In fact, I’m just about to block Bubba’s new beret made with Capretta. Capretta is a truly luxurious blend of merino, cashmere and just a touch of nylon. It is an incredible value for such fine fibers and it knits like a dream. It’s available these days as a superwash, which is just perfect for socks and baby things. And the colors are heavenly!
You might remember these awesome Bay of Quinte Socks knit by one of my favorite knitters, Amy C. Note the perfect stitch definition!
The Playdate Collection is available in book form at Knit Picks and also as individual patterns on Ravelry. I hope you’ll enjoy all eighteen designs!
