Cropped herringbone sweater

Hello, Lucca!

Good morning, knitters! It’s chilly and bright in New Orleans this Wednesday morning…so nice to see the sun! Sunday was Twelfth Night here in the Crescent City which means….IT’S ON! Carnival has officially begun!

Today I want to introduce a recently published pattern that’s been a real favorite of mine. It’s a simple, boxy, textured pullover that features a classic twisted stitch pattern. The Lucca Pullover is part of Knit.Wear Wool Studio V for which the theme was Florence. I’m thrilled to be part of the collection and grateful to Harper Point Photography for the amazing pictures.

Lucca is inspired by the cerebral, reasoned aspects of Florence that make the city sublime. Lucca’s form is subtle and authentic, while panels of directional texture are measured and mathematical.

The result is an airy, rather delicate fabric, clean and quietly cultivated. Classic herringbone is suggested in this rhythmic twisted stitch pattern; it is graceful in appearance and absolutely addictive to knit. Lucca is the simplest of shapes, a classic square, and uses drop shoulder shaping so as not to disrupt the flow of pattern. Deep 1 by 1 ribbing accents all edges.

I’m a huge fan of rustic, natural Brown Sheep Nature Spun Fingering. It is toothy, wooly and yet airy. The color range is fantastic!

I knitted this sample last spring and it was my constant companion. I took it EVERYWHERE with me. Above, you see I’m knitting at Jazz Fest (and yes, those are the remnants of a Bloody Mary!). A couple of weeks later, I took it to the beach. When I blocked it, I actually found white sand in the water! It was so much fun and so intuitive, I felt I knit half of it in my sleep.

As for further knitty fun, the Tipsy Knitters will be meeting tonight at Pearl Wine Bar in Mid-City. There WILL be King Cake! Keep in mind that next Wednesday, January 16, the Tipsy Knitters will be taking it on the road with a field trip to The Artisan Cafe and Bar on St. Claude. Yummy food and cheap drinks will be enjoyed by all! For more details, check the Facebook page and remember, you don’t have to live in New Orleans to be a Tipsy Knitter! Don’t forget about all the cool featured patterns available at 50% off this week! Cheers!
