Finished Object: Martha Cardigan

She’s done! It’s funny…no matter how much you sketch, plan, swatch, write, re-write, knit, frog, tink and knit again, there’s always a little surprise in the way knitted work turns out. Sometimes the yarn behaves in mysterious ways, for better or worse, sometimes a finish or an edging doesn’t quite come up to one’s expectations, but it’s always nice to wind up with something you like that fits in a lovely way. I like this well enough to write a pattern. Watch for it! Meantime, if you have a favorite DK weight woolen spun yarn, please let me know…I’m looking for suggestions.

A Stitch in Time at the TettIn addition to finishing my cardigan, other nice things have been happening! On Saturday, Elizabeth (Chez Lizzie) and I went to the opening of A Stitch in Time, a presentation of the Kingston Fibre Artists at Kingston’s cool new Tett Center for Learning and Creativity. From the sculptural wet-felted, color play clothing of Carolyn Barnett to the mosaic-like quilted wall art of Bethany Garner, the exhibit showcases a fabulous range of fibre and mixed media work. I felt a little squeamish about taking photos of artists’ works inside the exhibit, but if you’re local to south eastern Ontario, I suggest you see it. It’s a bite-sized showing that would round out a lunch time visit to the chic Tett Center, an arts cluster that houses organizations like the Kingston Arts Council, Theatre Kingston and the Kingston Handloom Weavers and Spinners.

Tett CentreThe Tett Centre and its partner building, the Isabel Bader Centre for Performing Arts are worth seeing. We took a stroll through both, admiring the proximity of the buildings to the lake which, on this particular day, was roiling and angry under a moody, blustery sky. Our early spring walk across the Queen’s University campus, though chilly, showed crocuses, snowdrops and even the early spiky-green growth of daffodils starting to show in some gardens. Sweetest sign of spring: a collection of scarves, found through the winter months and waiting to be reclaimed or adopted 🙂

And wouldn’t this beautiful gift make your day? Thank you, Elizabeth, for this sweet gift of yarn.

Lovely Knitty Gift from Elizabeth :)

This Saturday, April 9th will find me catching up with the Sock Diva at The Gathering in Port Hope, Ontario, where I’ll be stroking deliciously dyed strands from Boho Knits. See you there!

Great sweater, Cheryl. Looking forward to trying it.

My husband played a concert in that hall last month. Very interesting seating arrangement. The building and location are stunning – right on the lake. I wandered through the Tett building and was amazed at the wonderful spaces. Unfortunately, on a Sunday it was pretty quiet and none of the studios were open. I’ll have to try to get there during the week sometime.

    Cheers!

It is definitely on my list to attend a concert at the Isabel now that I’ve been in the building!

I'd love to hear from you!
