Week Two: Glenwood and Ari
This week, I’ll continue celebrating Hudson + West with two fingering weight pullovers, Glenwood and Ari.
A couple of years ago, I started a journey with a truly innovative new yarn company, Hudson+West. “Designer-driven and knitter-focused” is their mantra and they’ve true to these words. In the nearly three years that followed, I’ve stretched and grown, challenged my skill set and produced some of my very best work. I did not do this alone! During the month of April, I’ll be celebrating Hudson+West, the exciting creative road we’ve been on and the rewarding work we’ve done together since that first email back in August of 2019. Every Friday of this month, I’ll be featuring one special collaboration and celebrating with a 30% discount. You’ll find the Ravelry link and coupon code in the side bar.
Weld, the Wonder Yarn
I’ve loved exploiting the airy, breathy quality and natural drape of Weld in these engaging fingering weight pullovers. Knitted at a relaxed gauge, Weld creates a silky soft, light and lofty fabric with great structure. And Weld provides the stitch definition needed to make cables really shine. You’ll love every single color, too! You can view their Color Guide Book HERE.
(Psssst!….I’ve just completed another Hudson + West project in the “Dusk” colorway! Can’t wait to share it with you!)
GLENWOOD
The oversized, top down fingering weight pullover we’ve all been waiting for, Glenwood by Cheryl Toy is made in our lightweight Weld for an all-season comfort sweater. This cabled and textured pullover is made seamlessly and finishes with a polished tubular bind off.
Delectable Dolman
Intrigued by the emerging dolman trend I’d seen happening around the world of knitting, I worked with Hudson + West Weld to develop a shaping strategy that would create that open, draped dolman line. I used basic raglan shaping with carefully placed increase points in and around cabled and textured panels.
Glenwood, with its softly draped dolman sleeves and deep ribbing is worked downward from an open, ribbed neckline. Increase points tucked in and around strong vertical cables that run from neck to hem create a generous dolman line. From stitches left live after increases are complete, deep ribbed cuffs are worked. The center panel is worked in simple yet engaging diamond-tuck texture. The effect is stylish, yet roomy and warm with a cozy West Coast feel. The airiness of Weld worked at an open gauge keeps it light and wearable.
ARI
From New Orleans-based designer and long time friend of the flock Cheryl Toy comes the perfect cowl neck pullover for fall. Ari is a top down, in the round raglan, worked seamlessly in our soft and springy Weld. Featured in our natural colorway, Charcoal, the tweed-like heather makes the simple body fabric shine while enhancing the gorgeous rib + cable sleeves. The grand cowl neck is picked up and worked in the round for a quick + seamless knitter’s delight.
Details That Take the Cake
The details truly take the cake with the Ari Pullover. Features like the ribbed collar, candy twist cabled sleeves and deeply ribbed bottom edge combine a casual feel with a trim finish. I think the neckline, with its deeply ribbed collar, is a standout feature. It’s designed a little wider to achieve a classy, shallow drape. The overall shape is boxy and the length is just above the hip, which makes the Ari Pullover easy to style. Pair her with slim cut pants or jeans as they did at Hudson + West or pull her on over a well laundered cotton dress.
I hope you’ll enjoy these two intuitive pullovers as much as I have!
