Wherever we are, we Canadians love to knit! It’s not surprising that one of my favorite artisan yarn purveyors is SweetGeorgia. Based in Vancouver, Canada, SweetGeorgia consistently delivers luxurious yarns in stunning colors. I’ve had the good fortune to work with SweetGeorgia several times and have particularly enjoyed our shawl projects. This week, I’d like to feature four spring shawl patterns showcasing SweetGeorgia yarns.

Early Crocus
Lined with rows of delicate eyelet flowers, this simple triangular shawl is a beautifully easy accessory perfect for spring. Bands of drop stitch ribbing trace their way around the V-shaped edge, promising a delightful knit for new shawl knitters.
Inspired by the theme presented by Sweet Georgia, I went straight to the time-honored stitches of Barbara Walker. Within two of her several admirable stitch dictionaries, I found the delightfully quaint stitches I used to compose Early Crocus. Simple and easy to understand yet elegant, these traditional stitch patterns help to create a shawl in a classic triangle.
Cabana
This shape-shifting modified triange uses three engaging pattern sections, mosaic, mesh and drop-stitch rib to create a large snuggly wrap. Its long edge is trimmed in color while its pointy end finishes in a big fluffy tassel.
The firm roundness of Sweet Georgia Superwash DK creates incredible stitch definition and really made the layering of stitch patterns possible. The main color, Birch, is a beautiful neutral addition to Sweet Georgia’s formidable color library. It begs to be combined with fabulous Sapphire in the mosaic section and in the edging.
Lake Effect
Simple and homey, this generous wrap is a dream to wrap up in. Worked as a classic triangle, the pairing of Stockinette stitch, slipped stitches, and garter-rich openwork has a wonderfully geometric firmness. The Lake Effect Shawl is easy, super fun to knit and fun to wear.
A classic triangle, Lake Effect makes the perfect travel knitting project. Simple stockinette and slipped stitches form the main body while an easy garter-rich openwork pattern frames the edge. Lake Effect begins with a stretchy open edge and finishes with a pretty picot bind-off. It features a solid geometric firmness and stability brought to life by SweetGeorgia’s Superwash DK, a firm, round yarn that features an artful twist.
Maypole
The Maypole Shawl is an easy, semi-circular shawl that begins with a gentle stockinette body. Evenly spaced increases create pretty directional shaping lines that remind me of a spider’s web or the spokes of a wheel. The lace border, a whimsical pattern of big polka dots floating in mesh, is knitted continuously. It is pretty to look at and fun to knit. To finish, an exuberant loop-the-loop edging of I-cord creates a clever scallop.
I’m a big fan of polka dots! I find them fresh and lively and an instant mood-elevator. So back in May of 2018 I worked polka dots into the border of a shawl. Enter Maypole! For its first incarnation, I chose two yarn colors, a solid for the body and a variegated for the border. It was a fine idea, but it did little to showcase my lovely border of dots. To do justice to Maypole, I gathered two skeins of Cashluxe Spark from SweetGeorgia Yarns in Tangerine and knit a tonal version.
I hope you’ll enjoy knitting and wearing these shawl patterns as much as I have!
Love,
Cheryl
