Fabulous Features: Hats & Scarves

Hello, knitters! We’ve been blessed with dazzlingly beautiful weather over the last week here in the Gulf South. As I look across the weather map, however, I see that some of you have not been quite so lucky (although 28 degrees might feel pretty good if you’ve been at zero or below all winter). Are you getting tired of your woolies? Sick of putting on the same old hat? Fear not. Today in Fabulous Features, I’m going to offer a last kick at the winter can. With the coupon code LASTBLAST, you’ll get 50% off the following winter accessorie patterns.

Lundbye Scarf

A skiff of snow on furrowed ground, a brook frozen in its tracks, the tracks of skaters gliding over ice, the silence and cleanliness that a fall of snow imparts to the world: these are the inspirations for Lundbye. With elegant restraint,Lundbye relies on a simple ribbed texture to carry a single, perfect cable that floats along one side. The cable is deeply ribbed and rhythmic, and reversible so that Lundbye can loop and wind and layer around the neck for coziness. A tubular cast on with its matching bind off begin and end Lundbye, softening the edges with pure minimalism.

Sackets Harbor Hat

During my summer sojourns, Sackets Harbor is the first signpost once I’ve left the interstate. It’s a quiet gem, the first leg of the Seaway Trail, and offers gorgeous, cool Lake Ontario vistas. It has a slightly retro vibe with roadside bars and cafes closed years ago by the building of I-81. I love it, and I often fantasize about how it must look in the off-season, foggy and damp with big fat snowflakes falling on icy waters. That’s my inspiration for the Sackets Harbor Hat and the matching Sackets Harbor Mittens. This hat, suitable for men and women, is a simple stranded knitting project, knit in the round, and perfect for the first-time fair isle knitter. Hat and mittens can be worked in any worsted weight yarn, but yardage may vary with content.

Diana Hat

Diana Hat

Diana is a soft and comfortable slouchy hat that features pretty cables along the brim. These interesting details give Diana an elegant, pulled together look that makes for a fun and challenging knit. Shown here in Quince & Co Chickadee, a puffy, fluffy 100% wool, the Diana hat provides warmth as well as charm. Diana is worked in the round from the brim up using your preferred method of working in the round with a variable amount of slouchiness. Stitch patterns are presented in charted form. The Diana Hat is “challenging” for the beginner, and “interesting” for the intermediate knitter.

Cockleshells Hat & Cowl

There’s nothing like being wreathed in a snuggly soft hat and cowl once snowy winter sets in! Cockleshells is a relaxed and slouchy hat that covers your ears and sits low on your brow. No hat head here! The matching cowl winds twice around your neck and shoulders, keeping you cozy all winter long. The Cockleshells stitch pattern is fun to knit and interesting enough for seasoned knitters, yet this easy stitch pattern makes a great first lace project. Instructions are given in both written and charted form.

Charlotte Hat & Cowl

A delicate combination of cables and eyelets wend their way gently across the surface of the softly unstructured Charlotte Hat & Cowl. Stockinette panels are punctuated with simple rhythmic double cables and pierced with rick rack openwork columns. Whisper soft with a delicate halo, pure alpaca brings these pretty details to light while its two-ply character adds a certain rustic quality. The hat is slouchy in shape and is topped with a fluffy fur pompom (yarn requirements allow for a matching yarn pompom if you prefer) and the cowl is a generously sized double loop. Both pieces are worked seamlessly in the round from the bottom up.

I hope you’ll enjoy this last gasp of winter knitting and that spring will appear quickly and soon!

Love,

Cheryl

I'd love to hear from you!
