Fabulous Features

Good morning, knitters! I hope you all had a fine weekend. Here in New Orleans, Carnival season is going strong. The first of the season’s walking parades rolled this weekend. Chewbaccus, which has grown exponentially over the last couple of years, drew thousands to the St. Claude corridor on Saturday night. There will be hundreds of parades, large and small, rolling everywhere in the city until Mardi Gras, March 5.

I know that it’s not Carnival season in most of the world, though, and that most of you are concerned with staying warm. I’d like to help with that if I can! This week’s Fabulous Features are snuggly things for around your neck. They’re easy to knit and cozy to wear either indoors or out.

Lundbye Scarf

A skiff of snow on furrowed ground, a brook frozen in its tracks, the tracks of skaters gliding over ice, the silence and cleanliness that a fall of snow imparts to the world: these are the inspirations for Lundbye. With elegant restraint, Lundbye relies on a simple ribbed texture to carry a single, perfect cable that floats along one side. The cable is deeply ribbed and rhythmic, and reversible so that Lundbye can loop and wind and layer around the neck for coziness. A tubular cast on with its matching bind off begin and end Lundbye, softening the edges with pure minimalism.

(ps. I am working on matching Lundbye Hat and Lundbye Mittens patterns!)

Colony Cowl

The Colony Cowl is a real go-to! The stitch pattern is super simple yet fun to knit and produces an attractive, open fabric. “All the warmth without the weight” describes Colony perfectly. It is long enough to loop once loosely around the neck or twice snugly for those unexpectedly cool fall days. Worked in your favorite worsted weight yarn, Colony knits up quick as a wink and makes a great gift. Knit one in every color and toss them in your ‘holiday basket’ to give as gifts later!

Dalrymple Cowl

Thick, soft and ripply, just like the waters of Lake Dalrymple, is this easy cowl. It’s a great introduction to the mosaic technique with easy, rhythmic slip stitch movements. I’ve chosen cool, watery colors, but I believe it would be just as pretty in neutrals or in warm autumnal shades. Your choice! Any worsted weight yarn will work, making the Dalrymple Cowl an excellent stash buster. And, it’s a quick and interesting knit, perfect for gift giving.

Yew Tree Cowl

Yew Tree Cowl is a lacy ring worked in the round. It features a simple lace pattern, a pretty tree motif surrounded by a delicate diamond. This super easy lace pattern bridges the gap between chart knitting and TV knitting. It’s simple enough to knit in the car or in front of the television, yet challenging enough to feel you’re engaged with the pattern. This soft circle is 40” in circumference which means it will hang elegantly in a single loop or wrap twice for extra coziness. It is worked in KnitPicks Chroma, a soft, fuzzy single ply with a gentle color change and a slight thick/thin feel, but will knit beautifully in any fingering weight yarn. Perfect for gift knitting!

Cowls are such fun to knit and so versatile! Really, it’s hard to have too many of them at this time of year. I’m offering these four cowl patterns at a 50% discount through Monday, February 18. Just nip over to my Ravelry shop, pop your patterns into the shopping cart and enter the coupon code SNUGGLY2. I hope you enjoy them!

Love,

    Cheryl,
Will your Garnet Wrap pattern be available for purchase on Ravelry? I think when you first introduced it, you said it would be, but I haven’t seen it available yet, except by buying the whole Interweave Knits Gifts 2018 magazine – a bit pricey for all those hats and gloves when all I want is your Garnet Wrap.
