fluffy hat and cowl in the snow

Fabulous Feature

Good morning, knitters! I know that it’s snowy and cold in much of the world today. Our version here in New Orleans is a chilly rain, wind and general dampness. It’s a perfect (and rare!) day to pull out the woolies.

It was tough to figure out what pattern to feature this week. I wanted the feature to be something that everyone needs during these days of deep winter so I’ve chosen the Cockleshells Hat & Cowl pattern. It is truly a joy to knit and, depending on the yarn, a really cozy and warm set to wear.

Cockleshells Hat & Cowl

I made mine in Mirasol Tuhu, a blend of baby llama, merino and angora. This yarn is truly dreamy. It is spectacularly soft and due to that little bit of angora, sweetly fuzzy as well. Unfortunately, Tuhu has been officially discontinued. I was able to find a few colors online at Happy Ewe and a few colors stashed on Ravelry.

There are some interesting substitutes out there though. Sugar Bush Rapture would be great choice, although it lacks the angora component. Mirasol makes a 100% llama alternative, Llama Una, and Plymouth makes a pretty almost pure llama yarn with a tiny bit of metallic thread with their Baby Llama Glow Dye For Me.

Cockleshells Hat & Cowl

There’s nothing like being wreathed in a snuggly soft hat and cowl once snowy winter sets in! Cockleshells is a relaxed and slouchy hat that covers your ears and sits low on your brow. No hat head here! The matching cowl winds twice around your neck and shoulders, keeping you cozy all winter long. The Cockleshells stitch pattern is fun to knit and interesting enough for seasoned knitters, yet this easy stitch pattern makes a great first lace project.

Cockleshells features an easy and intuitive lace pattern with enough interest to engage the knitter but not so much that you’ll be glued to a chart. It’s a perfect snowy weekend knit that I hope you’ll really enjoy!

Cockleshells will be featured at 50% off in my Ravelry shop through Monday, February 4, 2019. Just pop it into your shopping cart and enter the coupon code SNOWDAY. If you like these little discounts and are interested in my work, I’d love to see you over at the Ravelry group Friends of Littlechurch Knits.

Have a wonderful day!

Love,
