Happy weekend, knitters! It’s a festival weekend here in NO. We’re celebrating the French Quarter’s 300th birthday with French Quarter Fest. There will be tons of food, live music and fun. I remember this fest when it was a small local affair. Not anymore! The crowds have become Jazz Fest sized. Everyone is well behaved and happy, though, so it’s not as bad as it sounds. I saw the legendary Irma Thomas yesterday, and even though it was blazing hot when we arrived, by sunset it began to get chilly.
I like having a simple sweater in my closet that I can pull out for just such an occasion, something I can throw into my tote bag, something that looks good over a little dress or jeans or even shorts. Enter the Eve’s Rib Cardigan. I like this sweater because of its button-free easy fit and the fact that it doesn’t close in front (but could if you wanted to using a pretty shawl pin). I first trotted out this cardigan pattern back in August of 2014 in response to a little brown cardigan we had hanging in Rosehaven. You can read all about the origins of Eve’s Rib here.
This simple raglan cardigan features a deep v-neck and is worked seamlessly from the top down. Its light shaping and button-free design makes it as easy to wear as it is to knit. Though this sweater is not designed to close in front, the natural stretch of the ribbed fabric permits the use of your favorite shawl pin to close the cardigan slightly above the waist. Wear it open for a layer of extra warmth around your shoulders. You’ll want one in every color!
For Eve’s Rib redux, I’ve brushed up the pattern, giving it a good tech editing and smoothing out some rough spots. I think it’s a much more intuitive pattern now. I’m keen to pick up some heavier weight cotton in white or natural and make another Eve’s Rib for warmer climes.
If you haven’t discovered Cascade’s Eco and Eco+ lines, you are in for a treat! This is a pure, simple, rustic yarn that is a true pleasure to knit. The Eco line is undyed natural colors, while the Eco+ line is colored in muted nature-inspired shades. There is no debating the value here. Eco is put up in 250g skeins containing 478 yarns. I’ve just found it on Yarn.com for under $25 and in 22 gorgeous colors!
