Week One: Craghill
I’m celebrating Hudson + West Co. during the month of April! A couple of years ago, I started a journey with a truly innovative new yarn company, Hudson + West Co. “Designer-driven and knitter-focused” is their mantra and they’ve taken it seriously. In the nearly three years that followed, the team at Hudson + West Co. have pushed my envelope, challenged my skill set and helped me to produce some of my very best work. During the month of April, I’ll be celebrating Hudson + West Co., the exciting creative road we’ve been on and the rewarding work we’ve done together since that first email back in August of 2019. Every Friday of this month, I’ll be featuring one special collaboration and celebrating with a 30% discount. You’ll find the Ravelry link and coupon code in the side bar.
Designer-driven and knitter-focused, Hudson + West is about making yarns that you’ll want to return to over and over. We create yarns that support the ready-to-wear inspired garments and accessories that form the core of the modern knitter’s wardrobe. And we source and produce our yarns in the U.S., using a traceable, sustainable, and fair supply chain.
CRAGHILL
Celebrating Hudson + West begins with Craghill. I wanted to design a shawl to showcase the restrained and sophisticated shade card selected by Hudson + West to mark their first year. At the same time, I wanted to explore the natural beauty of their new neutrals. Craghill balances a swoon-worthy signature shade, Gold Leaf, against a backdrop of high contrast neutrals. This triangular shawl coalesces in the airy embrace of Weld, their silky fingering-weight cornerstone yarn.
We love snuggly, soothing garter stitch in a shawl. Craghill by Cheryl Toy is a squishy, lightweight shawl for year round wear. The shawl is constructed from the top down from the center back and features eyelets, garter stripes, and tile-like motif on the main body.
Craghill is an interesting mixture of techniques; you’ll find a little eyelet work, some stripes, some homey garter stitch and a really exciting mosaic stitch. This super fun, addictive slip stitch pattern is the main event in the Craghill Shawl. Little cubes appear like tiny pillows on a wide swathe of thin stripes that shrink and swell. Borders and bands of garter stitch add structure and graphic control to this exuberant three-color fabric while two row stripes contribute an element of order.
This shawl is a true favorite of mine because it is SO much fun to knit. The hardest part is choosing three gorgeous Hudson + West Co colors to knit with! Worked in soft, silky Weld, you’ll be celebrating Hudson + West to the very last stitch.
