Bright Shiny Facings

Bright Shiny Facings

I really enjoy the clean look of hemmed knits especially when they’re lined with bright shiny facings. An unexpected pop of color on the inside of garments and accessories adds so much depth and detail to handknits. This week, I’m offering 30% off two patterns that have colored hemmed edges. (They’re both combination sets, which adds a little lagniappe!) Use the coupon code FACINGS2 in my Ravelry shop and take 30% off these two popular patterns through Friday, January 28.

EGRET HAT & MITTS

Bright Shiny Facings

I’ve used brilliant red for the facings of this mostly neutral hat and mittens set. I think those bright shiny facings really make this set cry out for a slick toboggan hill or a frozen pond.

Faced hem Egret Hat & Mitts

The lighthearted Egret Hat and Mitts Set combines classic stranded color work with traditional Sanquhar two-color patterning. The Egret Hat is a classic ski-slope shape from the 1950s, and the mitts feature time-honored color work in a modern design. Both include lined edges in holiday red, and the hat sports a whimsical tassel to match.

Quince & Co Chickadee

Part of the joy of knitting Egret was choosing the colors. I’ve stuck to a fairly neutral palette for the classic color work techniques, but you don’t have to! Quince & Co Chickadee offers a sophisticated range of shades in this super soft, all wool, sport weight yarn.

MENDED HEART HAT & SOCKS

Hemmed Edges for Knits

Just in time for Valentines Day, here is Mended Heart! What could be more firey than a true heart, especially one that’s been mended a time or two? Hearts aren’t just for wearing on sleeves anymore. Now you can wear them on your head and toes too!

Bright Shiny Facings

This simple set of two-color hat and socks are worked in humble stockinette, then decorated with darned hearts where hems meet bodies. Cuffs and brims are then hemmed to create a nice clean interior.

Worked from the brim up, toque-style shaping graces a tall-ish crown on this basic hat. The socks are worked top down and feature a contrasting short row heel. There a big ol’ sweet heart on the sole too!

Itty Bitty by Sugar Bush Yarns is a real sleeper. This Canadian yarn company has a stunning line in a range of high-quality fibers, yarn weights and rich colors.

Sugar Bush Itty-Bitty is oh-so-soft while being hard-wearing enough to withstand countless trips through the washing machine. While merino wool and cashmere add luxury to this blend, its nylon content gives this yarn strength and longevity. It boasts an expansive color palette of solids and coordinating variegated shades that are perfect for mixing and matching.

I hope you’ll enjoy knitting some bright shiny facings! Can’t wait to see what stunning color choices you come up with!

I'd love to hear from you!
