Brewster Cardigan

Brewster

This is a happy day! I have been so excited about sharing my latest collaboration with the good people at Hudson+West that it has been incredibly difficult not to spill the beans! The Brewster Cardigan makes its debut today! I am just thrilled to be part of this amazing collection for Autumn and Winter 2020. (Pssst…to celebrate this special release, there’s a little discount for you at the bottom of this page!)

Brewster, my very first published menswear piece, was inspired by Sloane’s hometown of San Francisco and the rugged terrain of Northern California. I wanted to express the off-hand, effortless chic of that city with a retro-inspired cardigan true to its American roots.

There is something so hip and vintage about garter-textured cables. Homespun garter stitch and retro cables combine to create deep texture and movement. Brewster features two-stitch cables filled with garter stitch floating in relief on a background of reverse stockinette.

This cool, modern take on your Dad’s go-to cardigan features a lush shawl collar and deeply ribbed front bands. It is begun at the bottom and worked upward, incorporating knitted-in pockets on the way. Brewster begins with an optional tubular cast on and uses the incredibly useful one-row buttonhole.

Then, there’s Forge, the worsted weight gem from Hudson+West. Since their inception about a year ago, I’ve been obsessed with this yarn. It is sourced, spun and dyed in the US and represents the cumulative know-how and creativity of Meghan Babin (designer and former Interweave Knits editor) and designer Sloane Rosenthal.

Forge is made from a heathered blend of 70% U.S. Merino (sourced in Colorado and New Mexico), and 30% U.S. Corriedale (sourced in New York) wool. Forge is a round, well-balanced three-ply yarn.

Forge is truly the perfect balance between softness and durability and is available in gorgeous, carefully curated shades. I feel a little quiver every time new colors are announced, so I was beyond happy to be working with a new shade, Mustard, that is being added to the H+W shade card this year.

I hope you’ll love Brewster as much as I do! I promise you an engaging knit with a fabulous yarn. During launch week, I’m offering a discount on the Brewster pattern. Faithful reader, you can take 30% off the pattern price by using the coupon code NEWBREW. Pop over to my Ravelry shop and grab it! I hope you have a great day!
