Adam is my connection. If it has to do with sewing, sample making, tailoring or leather work, Adam either has it or he can get it. Adam always ‘knows a guy’. Adam is The Man!
You can get anything at Adam’s. Strange bits and bobs, notions of all kinds, the best zipper selection ever as well as parts and supplies for industrial sewing machines, it’s all there. I figure I save hundreds of dollars every year shopping there. If you’re in the Toronto area, they are at 204 Spadina Avenue, just above Queen, (416) 913-4868. You’ll thank me!
I first found Adam’s place, The Leather & Sewing Supply Depot, a couple of years ago quite by accident. They were the second-door-downstairs-on-the-right on Vanauley Street, little more than an alley in Toronto’s once-legendary garment district. Of course, now they’ve moved to swanky new digs on Spadina, but he’ll always be Adam-from-Vanauley-Street to me.
The folks who work with Adam at the shop are fabulous. They will run, dig, ferret around and reach into some pretty dark places to help you find what you need and if they can’t find it, they’ll order it for you. They don’t look at you funny when you ask “Hey, you guys got those weird little plastic things? You know, the square ones….for bra straps??” Resourceful, imaginative, relaxed and friendly…that’s how it is at Adam’s. And that’s why I don’t mind driving 3 hours to get there.
While in Toronto, I also managed to procure these pretty pieces for my tiny Candy Clutch bags. Sweet, huh?
And of course, no trip to the big city is complete without this. Check out the times on the ticket and the paid parking slip…that’s right, five lousy minutes.
