In keeping with my New Years challenge, I’m happy to offer another new pattern, the Cockleshells Hat & Cowl! This pattern is free until Valentine’s Day, which means you’ve got ample time to knit one up for your BFF, your sister, your Mom or Auntie! This is a seriously fun knit, very quick, and full of interesting little bits to keep any knitter engaged. It makes a great first time lace project too! Miss MJ whizzed through the hat having never worked from a chart before. Granted, she is a bit of a prodigy 😉
Originally, I worked the design up as a sample from which to teach an introductory lace class last summer. I knit it in Berroco Indigo, a cotton yarn made from recycled jeans. I’m telling you, I wore the heck out of that hat all summer! I knit three of them! When the weather began to cool, I knew I’d miss my cotton hat and decided to make one in luxurious Tuhu by Mirasol. Tuhu is a buttery blend of baby llama, merino and angora and so has a delightful little halo…so fluffy soft and drapey next to the skin. Any DK will do though.
Just in time for all this new fallen snow, as if by some magical cue, I shall fly south tomorrow to my annual Mardi Gras sojourn with Miss Laura. We will be making the world a little more colorful, a little more sparkly and a lot more fun until the big day, Fat Tuesday, on February 9. I’ll be checking out several knitting groups while I’m there, including Wednesday afternoon at Bornside Yarn, the shop of my personal knitting guru, Miss Bette.
See y’all in New Orleans!
