Four Fair Isle Projects

As spring breezes begin to blow, I’d like one last crack at fair isle knitting. These four fair isle projects come instantly to mind. They are all easy and quick to knit, plus, they use only two colors at a time. That’s what makes these four fair isle projects perfect for your first stranded knitting project. This week, I’m offering a discount on four fun and easy fair isle patterns to spark up your late winter knitting. Take 30% off the price of these four popular patterns in my Ravelry shop through Friday, March 11, 2022. Use coupon code LASTBLAST4 at checkout.

RHYS

Rhys is my most recent fair isle project. I designed Rhys in collaboration with my favorite fiber peeps, Hudson + West Co., using their fabulous Forge worsted.

Rhys Pullover

Super modern, super cozy, super fun to make + wear! Cheryl Toy’s Rhys knocks it out of the park with its swoncho shape, bold + modern yoke motif, and overall cozy feel. This pullover is work-from-home and weekend lounging ready. Made seamlessly from the top down, Rhys is knitter-friendly and delivers “one more row” syndrome from cast on to bind off!

Rhys Pullover

Rhys features a deep, elbow length yoke with plenty of room for the extra large graphic fair isle motif. It’s an easy two-color stranded project.

PEPPER & SNOW

I designed Pepper & Snow for Knit.Wear in 2018 as part of their Modern Fair Isle story. This three-color fair isle project uses only two strands at a time to keep things manageable. Stripes added at the neck and cuffs make this pullover an easy and exciting color work project in pure and simple Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport.

Pepper & Snow

There’s a lot that’s modern and a lot that’s retro in this oversized neo-Icelandic pullover. Its ample size and shaped hem are set firmly in the now, but its unisex shape and graphic color play has roots deep in the 70’s. Pepper & Snow represents years of knitting history, from the original Icelandic techniques to the pattern flyers familiar to our mothers, to the modern craft of knitting we enjoy today.

SACKETS HARBOR

Hats are among the most satisfying fair isle projects because of their “bite-sized” nature. Start it tonight and finish it tomorrow!

Sackets Harbor Hat

During my summer sojourns, Sacket’s Harbor is the first signpost once I’ve left the interstate. It’s a quiet gem, the first leg of the Seaway Trail, and offers gorgeous, cool Lake Ontario vistas. It has a slightly retro vibe with roadside bars and cafes closed years ago by the building of I-81. I love it, and I often fantasize about how it must look in the off-season, foggy and damp with big fat snowflakes falling on icy waters. That’s my inspiration for the Sackets Harbor Hat and the matching Sackets Harbor Mittens.

Sackets Harbor Hat

Sackets Harbor, suitable for men and women, is a simple stranded knitting project, knit in the round, and perfect for the first-time fair isle knitter. Hat and mittens can be worked in any worsted weight yarn, but yardage may vary with content.

HAY BAY

Another fast and easy two-color fair isle project is the Hay Bay Hat. Deep ribbing edges the brim while simple stranded color work completes the crown. Choose two favorite shades of worsted weight yarn and cast on!

Hay Bay Hat

Everyone needs a classic toque, especially one that’s knit in fresh, bright, snowy fair isle. This is a super simple stranded pattern, perfect for the first-time color work knitter. A deep, double fold ribbed brim provides extra warmth around the ears for those frosty days, while a roomy cap prevents hat head. A big fluffy pompom tops the whole thing off. It’s quick, easy and fun to knit and fun to give as a gift as well! Hat is designed with 2” negative ease.

I hope you’ll enjoy this little glimpse into easy fair isle knitting!

I'd love to hear from you!
