Featured: BIG SOCKS

It’s hard to believe, but we’re heading into it. Big snows will come, big cold will come and though it’s pretty temperate here in the Deep South, big socks are awfully good at keeping out the swampy damp. And heavy weight socks are quicker to knit in the lead up to Holiday making and baking, too!

For this week’s Showcase, I’d like to feature three of my “Big Socks” patterns. These are serious over-the-knee variations or sock projects that call for yarn that is a little heavier. Take 30% off these patterns in my Ravelry shop through Friday, November 27 using the coupon code BIGSOCKS2.

Yukon River

Definitely the biggest and baddest of the Big Socks, the Yukon River Stockings are worked in Aran weight yarn and feature deeply sculpted cables and lush ribbing.

A little about their original release back in November 2017:

Today I’d like to share a little about the Yukon River Stockings. Since this issue’s theme was rustic, north country knits, I felt right at home and drew on my Canadian childhood for inspiration. Does anyone remember snow days? They were magical days, so snowy that school was cancelled. We got a fabulous “bonus Saturday” during which we’d play outside until we got cold or Mom called us in for lunch. I remember loving the pristine snow where no boots had trod before. Such was the inspiration for these thickly cabled over-the-knee socks.

Fontana Socks

The Fontana Socks, first published by Knit Picks as part of their Splendid Soles collection, are over-the-knee socks worked from the toe up using a Fleegle heel. Cable stitches and increases are worked into a ribbing pattern to make sizing the leg easier.

Fontana Socks from Splendid Soles

Long and ribbed and highlighted with a delightful cable, these over-the-knee socks make a perfect showcase for your favorite yarn, from gorgeous solids, playful kettle-dyed and tonal, or a subtle and trendy gradient. With a leg-sized canvases to work with, you can indulge in your wildest color fantasies, and give even more of your body the cozy embrace of handmade socks.

Mended Hearts

This whimsical little set includes a matching hat pattern. Both feature simple two-color stockinette embellished with easy embroidery.

What could be sweeter than a true heart, especially one that’s been mended a time or two? Hearts aren’t just for wearing on sleeves anymore! Now you can wear them on your head and toes too. This simple two-color set is worked in humble stockinette, then decorated with embroidered hearts where hems meet brims and cuffs. Brims and cuffs are then hemmed to create a nice, clean interior. The hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, and the socks are worked from the cuff down with a short-row heel.

I hope you’ll enjoy this little discount! Happy knitting!
