Cumberland Pullover Pattern

This lacy pullover was inspired, believe it or not, by the cornerstone of all Southern food: humble grits! More subtle and delicate than the name implies, this simple corn staple comes from hominy which is related yet distinct from the common yellow corn used to make corn bread or polenta. At its best, hominy is scented with herbs like rosemary, lavender or herbes de Provence and simmered slowly in cream rather than the commonly used water, giving it a delicate flavor and silkiness when cooked. These are the characteristics that I hoped to evoke with the Cumberland Pullover. It is simple, soft and tender with classic raglan shaping and it features an all-over lace motif that represents tiny ears of corn!

The Cumberland Pullover is worked seamlessly from the bottom up. Sleeves are worked separately from the cuff up and joined at the yoke. The yoke is shaped with raglan shaping.
