My World This Week

Finished! I can hardly believe it myself. These socks were meant to be done before Fr. Richard left us for Buffalo, Minnesota over a year ago. He’s coming to spend the holiday season with us at St. Jude, so I forced myself to sit down and finish them. Actually, this pesky project turned out to be very enjoyable in the end. I’ve had a yearning for sock knitting lately.

Despite being unhappy with the original heel (knitted four times!), I must say I’m rather pleased with them.

I adapted the idea from an old Beehive pattern. I created a chart for this unusual cable based on the original written instructions, then worked them from the top down. It’s funny how the trend has moved toward shorter socks; I actually prefer mine a little shorter.

I’d originally intended to use my go-to short row heel but didn’t like the look. Somehow that strategy did not agree with the Lang Yarn. I wound up doing an upside-down Fleegle heel. (I think it’s called a Strong heel when it’s worked that way.) I’ve done it a couple of times and I like the look and the fit. Hopefully, they will keep Father’s feet toasty over the long winter to come.

Look what arrived right at Thanksgiving! Could the color be more perfect? This is a fingering weight yarn, Weld in Red Feather from Hudson + West and I love it! I cannot wait to get started on another great project with this incredible yarn.

I got so busy with sock knitting and the holidays that that’s about it for me this week. Hope you have a great week of knitting! See you soon.

Love,

Cheryl
