MWTW: Snowflakes & Swatches

It’s so beautiful here today that it seems strange to be thinking about snowflakes but they’ve made up a big part of My World This Week.

Remember last year when I filled the ceiling of the bar at the Artisan Cafe with falling snowflakes? Well, they’re back by popular demand. I’ve spent the last few weeks snipping away while sipping some wine.

I’ve got about 200 to hang. On Monday, I’ll hang a network of invisible monofilament and get as far as I can with hanging the flakes up.

They’re not hard to make. It’s all in that classic four-step fold we all learned in second grade. From there, you snip away being careful to keep a little of each folded edge in tact so they don’t fall apart.

Remember, the more you cut away, the more delicate and lacy your snowflake will be. Usually, I give them a little press with the iron to flatten out the fold lines. Then, I tape on some very light monofilament line and they’re ready to hang. They’re a lot of fun and they make everyone smile.

And of course, THIS happened over the weekend! Yes, that’s our lovely Sarah, Tipsy Knitter and sample knitter extraordinaire on her big day. She and Marshall did such an amazing job of everything! It was a really beautiful wedding. Look what Marshall made! This is knitted in I-cord!

When I wasn’t snippin’, sippin’, celebratin’ and wearin’ fancy shoes, I actually got some knitting done!

I’ve been swatching with some of the lovely new yarns that Cascade will be adding to their line this year. The blue one in the foreground is a soft and fluffy blend of merino and alpaca with just a little nylon thrown in. It is dreamy and would be great for heavy weight socks, my current obsession. Hopefully, I’ll get to be part of the Spring 2020 collection.

That’s all the news for today. Back to my knitting!

Love,

Cheryl
