pullover with patterned seamless yoke

Crystal Revisited

About a year ago, Interweave Knits published their Science Issue and with it, the Crystal Pullover. This clever theme included inspiration from astronomy, chemistry, biology and geology and I remember that this was the moment when I fell in love with Jaggerspun Yarn.

Lacy lattice structures take shape from sedimentary garter-stitch layers in the Crystal Pullover. A graphic crystalline motif creates an eye-catching seamless yoke atop a simple body of stockinette stitch, and deep garter bands edge the cuff and hem.

Combining traditional methods with a modern yoke, this pullover is worked from the bottom up, joined at the underarm, and shaped using cleverly placed yoke decreases.

I wanted to combine lace elements with garter stitch while working the yoke decreases into the garter bands. I so enjoyed the math on this project!

Looking back over some completed projects on Ravelry, I came upon Wheelomatic’s Wulfenite Sweater and was really smitten with her take on the Crystal Pullover. Carroll chose a light fingering weight single ply from Knitted Wit; I absolutely love the color she chose. A designer herself, Carroll was able to adjust needle size and stitch count to achieve the fabric she wanted for Crystal.

Carroll knitted her sleeves 2 at a time and incorporated the crystal stitch motif in the cuffs. Now, why didn’t I think of that?

Thanks so much, Wheelomatic, for your taste, style and expertise and for the use of your photos! Keep up the awesome knitting!
