The Baja Hoodie

Hello knitters! I’m so happy to share a new design, the Baja Hoodie, with you today. It is part of Interweave Knits Summer 2019 collection. I’m thrilled to be a part of it! Many thanks to Trudy F. for knitting this sample!

The iconic striping pattern and graphic bands of the traditional Mexican blanket are synonymous with summer. Making its seasonal appearance at the beach, campsite, cottage and pool, this casual cloth lends itself to a spectrum of color in partnership with signature black-and-white patterned bands.

I’ve combined the visual elements of  the Mexican blanket with the classic baja shape to create a new unisex Baja Jacket. Its super simple drop shoulder shape allows for uninterrupted striping and stranded color work as well as a range of sizes.

A slanted insert pocket is knitted-in as the jacket is worked. A slit neck evolves into a hood worked separately and joined with a 3-needle bind off. Hood, neck, cuffs and hem are edged with two- color Latvian braid.

I love just about everything from Brown Sheep; their pure wool products come in an incredible range of colors and weights. Cotton Fleece, however, is the jewel in the crown. Available in both DK and fingering weights, t his versatile gem combines the natural, rustic qualities of cotton with the fluffy loft of wool. Bette Bornside introduced me to Cotton Fleece about 15 years ago and I’ve enjoyed it ever since in many different projects.

Interweave Knits Summer 2019 is available digitally and in print. I hope you’ll enjoy the Baja Hoodie! Thank you to Harper Point Photography for the lovely images and, as always, thanks so much to the staff at Interweave Knits!

I'd love to hear from you!
