My World This Week

Good morning, knitters! I hope you’re somewhere warm – by the fire, under the sun, under the covers. The weather has been lovely here, though very up and down temperature wise. Today is glorious, sunny and bright, and hovering around 65. We might get a little rain later, though.

Look what arrived! “Coffeehouse Knits” is the latest from Interweave Books and I am a proud contributor. My Gingersnap Pullover can be found on page 26 and those are my sleeves on the cover! More on the Gingersnap Pullover on Friday.

It has been a mad couple of weeks, as it is always during Carnival time. Traffic is crazy because there are parades and floats everywhere, folks are scrambling to get the last of their costume bits together and everyone is in a state of high excitement. Speaking of parades, Miss Laura and I marched with the Krewe of Goddesses in the inaugural parade of the Krewe of Boheme last week, a new parade that was lauded in the media as “beyond beautiful” (you can read more about it HERE). That’s us dressed as Green Goddesses!

I’ve been madly swatching color work this week. There have been quite a few submission calls for color work lately, and I never feel quite confident about producing color work swatches under pressure. I thought I’d work up some ideas in a couple of different weights to have ready for future calls or perhaps to publish privately.

On the far left, I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport for these snowflake inspired stripes. I thought perhaps a tubular scarf or cowl might be worked this way. The center swatch is in yarn by Koigu. I’ve been working for a while on developing a seamless yoke sweater using this motif. The third swatch features New Orleans inspired fleur de lis for a seamless yoke sweater in a chunky weight single ply such as Quince and Co. Puffin.

One of my favorite parades of carnival season is the annual Mystic Krewe of Barkus parade which features – you guessed it! – puppy dogs! The theme of Barkus 2019 was “The Big Bark Theory – Barkus Goes to Comic Con”. This year’s Royal Court of Barkus was comprised of the following Dukes:

Miss Patty, Miss Laura, Bubba and I were on hand at Black Penny to pick up our cocktails before setting off.

We encountered lovely Wonder Woman and Sweet Potato along the way.

The madness continues through next Tuesday, Mardi Gras day, and then the season of Lent begins. Boy, am I ready for that! Bye for now.

Love,

Cheryl

I'd love to hear from you!
