Good morning, knitters! Today I want to tell you about a newly published pattern, the First Class Hoodie, within the pages of Knitscene Spring 2019. I’m so happy to be included in this great collection among so many smart, modern achievable knits. Many, many thanks to Tipsy Knitter Alexa for her great work on this sweater!
I found the theme, Jetsetters, really inspiring and found myself thinking about airplanes and airports and their crazy temperature variations. Gradually, an easy fitting hoodie emerged.
What could be simpler and more comfortable for travel than a classic hoodie? Easy fitting drop shoulder construction creates lots of comfy ease to allow for a tee or tank underneath. Extra length creates a long smooth line perfect for wearing with tights or yoga pants.
This is a real workhorse, the go-to sweater you grab everyday. Fields of clean stockinette worked to a stable gauge are edged with simple but feminine eyelet pattern adding a touch of “pretty” and giving the knitter a little something fun to do. Clean lines and simple techniques open up the world for color play, too. Picture it in any of the many gorgeous shades of Quince & Co Chickadee like sky blue, indigo, even red!
The First Class Hoodie is worked seamlessly from the bottom up. The sleeves are picked up along the armhole edge and feature a clean and easy perpendicular join. Short rows shape the back neck. The hood is worked separately then joined using a three needle bind off to create stability at the neck edge.
