Good morning! Today, I’d like to introduce a new design, the Larkshead Throw, debuting today in KnitPicks latest book, Tranquility: A KnitPicks Home Collection. I’m very excited to contribute Larkshead to this collection of 16 patterns for the home. Pillows, throws, mats and table runners all make a cozy statement in this beautifully curated book. Patterns are available separately, too.
I just love the bohemian chic of cotton! Its easy-moving, tactile silkiness is at once exotic and earthy, timeless and modern. With the Larkshead Throw, I want to combine the casually exotic qualities of cotton with more complicated and formal stitch movement.
Ultimately, I wanted this odd marriage to suggest the boho look of macrame. I’ve chosen diamond and lattice patterns that so often adorn the surfaces of macrame wall hangings augmented with solid “rods” worked of I-cord and 3-stitch twisted cables. Finished with knotted fringe, the Larkshead Throw represents something cool yet sophisticated with on-trend appeal.
The Larkshead Throw is worked in KnitPicks Cotlin, an earthy blend of cotton and linen that is available in a wide range of sophisticated colors. It combines the luscious drape of linen with the cozy loft of cotton all wrapped up in a round, silky, stringy yarn.
Tanguis (tan-gwiss) cotton has a very soft hand, excellent absorption and, because it is a naturally white fiber, a high affinity for dyes. The Belgian linen adds the characteristic flecks and additional absorbency with very low elasticity – helping to alleviate stretching in the finished knit. Summer linen has an extended growing period which results in a longer, stronger fiber. When blended with the already strong Tanguis cotton, it makes a durable, wearable, and soft yarn. The knit fabric will get softer with each wash too.
If you recall, I used Cotlin for my Fair Haven Picnic Blanket back in July of 2016. My love for this yarn has not dimmed a single bit!
I hope you’ll enjoy Tranquility as much as I have! It’s the perfect time to spiff up the house for summer guests. Til we meet again, happy knitting!

I love the pillow / cushion pattern. It looks easy to make.
Well done.
