Canoe - Dusk

Tried This?

Life’s funny. I find it ironic that I found a great Canadian yarn way down here in Louisiana! I was shopping around at Miss Bette’s, looking for the perfect yarn to swatch a new sweater idea, I came upon the highly unusual Canoe. The label read “Sugarbush Yarns” and I knew immediately that it had to be Canadian. Sure enough! Bette Bornside Co. is currently carrying the robust Canoe and Drizzle, which is the exact same yardage and fiber blend as Rowan’s Kid Silk Haze but at a fraction of the cost.

Now, I’ve never been one for chained yarns. In fact, when it comes to yarn, I think the simpler the better. However, I found “Canoe” to be pretty fascinating in the skein and amazing when knitted. It consists of a sort of chained tube or conduit that contains a colorful and almost weightless fluffy core. When it’s knitted, it creates a stunning puffy tweed effect that is incredibly light for a bulky weight yarn. I think the color combinations are super attractive, too!

Bliss

I’m excited to try some of the other luxury blends as well, particularly Bliss, the aptly named blend of merino, silk and cashmere. It appears to be an S-plied sport weight that would be perfect for luxury accessories. I’m thinking of soft fluffy cowls and lovely gloves. Look at these glorious blues:

I’m also intrigued by “Rapture”, a worsted weight blend of llama and merino that is available in lovely heathered shades like “Ravishing Rose” and “Denim Devotion. Cabot also turned my head, being a big fan of warm weather blends. It’s a mix of cotton and linen dyed in really rich solids and in some super funky hand paints as well.

Makes me want to clear my knitting slate and cast on all the things!

I love Bette Bornside’s store. I am originally from Louisiana and lived in New Iberia for several years so I used to shop there often. She was so kind and helpful when I first started knitting. Her store is amazing and chock-a-block full of great knitting stuff.
