Snow Day

My Mojo

Leaving New OrleansGood morning! I’m home! I left New Orleans on Sunday morning under sunny, 70 degree skies and flew to the coldest spot in the US on the coldest day of the year. It was a temperature differential of nearly 80 degrees F! Carl texted to let me know that the pipe between the well and the church had frozen and that I should be prepared to be without water. Shocking. Almost as shocking as the 18″ of snow we received yesterday. Somehow, though, it’s ok. I had a lovely couple of days unplugged, unpacking, watching Foyle’s War reruns, cleaning my nest and getting my knitting mojo back.

It helped that this awaited me:

Onion Yarn

Carl brought back four skeins of this gorgeous Danish yarn, “Onion”, from his recent trip to Copenhagen. It is a blend of fine organic wool and (believe it or not) nettles! I loved it instantly. It’s extremely soft and very, very silky but without the scuffiness that silk sometimes has. I have two really lovely shades of blue; one is a sort of aqua/sky blue and the other a deep purply-denimy blue.

Cheryl's Flying Geese

Flying Geese by Peg BlechmanI was excited to work with them right away! I was a little exhausted from Mardi Gras and, since we were expecting a huge dump of snow, decided to call Tuesday a snow day. I wanted an interesting, wearable project that I could knit over a couple of days. I chose Flying Geese by Peg Blechman and I couldn’t be more delighted! It’s been a real pleasure to knit, perfect for the yarn and worked up in just about the right amount of time.

I love the way Peg has used the traditional flying geese motif in organized, vine-like strips. The stitch pattern is very elegant and fine, even with heavier weight yarn, and I admire the way it balances with the simple corrugated ribbing. I added a couple of pattern repeats because I favor a smaller needle for stranded color work. I’ll finish it today and I can’t wait to wear it.  I really feel that I’ve got my knitting mojo back 🙂

It’s been nice to have a couple of quiet days…I’ve got a LOT of exciting stuff coming up and thereby, a ton of planning to do. AND…since it has begun to snow again, more shoveling. See you Friday 😉
