A Big Box of Yarn, Shiny Blue Sock Blockers and a Free Set of Needles!

Extra Yarn by Mac BennettYesterday, the nice man from UPS stopped by with my KnitPicks box. Living out in the country, we always have the same UPS guy. I ashamed to say that I don’t know his name, but I admire him because Teddy doesn’t scare him at all…and believe me, Teddy puts on a pretty good show!

City TweedInside was a daunting amount of KnitPicks City Tweed for the Timberline, a brand new shiny set of ladies-size sock blockers and a free pair of “Options”, KnitPicks interchangeable circular needles. What a nice little perk! I’ve been a very staunch devotee of Skacel for a long time, although recently I’ve begun to favor Knitter’s Pride Nova because of their supple cables. I’m more than willing to give these a try however. I love the idea of having every size of needle and cable at my finger tips. We all know that it comes down to how well the stitches slide over the join. We’ll see!

I’ve mentioned that I’ve frogged the Highclere and started in on Glenna C’s Dundurn Cardigan. I did find a couple of errors in the chart but now that I’ve got them sorted out I’m cruising along beautifully. August means “Summer Under the Stars” on TCM; bliss for the film buff with each day devoted to the films of a single star. Between that and Carl working out of town I’ve got lots of good tv-knitting time. I’m hoping to start the Timberline on the weekend. We’ve got to drive to Kingston and that means car-knitting!

Nutkin Socks from Knitzi

While we were filming the kid’s show, I got a good start on a pair of socks. In fact, they are close to done…hence the sock blockers. Socks make such good knits for traveling that I knit them all the way to the toe, at which point they tend to languish for a while in my knitting basket. I have a couple of pair like that (she said with some chagrin). This particular pair is “Nutkin” from Knitzi.com, a site I’d never visited before. The pattern is perfect for knitting on-the-go. It is easily memorized and looks a lot more complicated than it is. I made a few changes; I replaced the hemmed edge with ribbing at the top and worked my usual graft at the toe. I think the yarn is gorgeous. It is Imagination by KnitPicks, a blend of merino and alpaca, in the colorway “Enchanted Lake”. I can’t wait to try some more!

Rhiannon Socks by Cookie AI’ve just added a new sock pattern, Rhiannon by Cookie A, to my queue expressly for wearing under these stupidly-expensive-yet-utterly-necessary Wellies. Hunter BooksAs luck would have it, I bought them two days before some Torontonian angered the rain gods and brought this upon us:

Liberty Village

I was lucky to get my car out of there, but spent about 4 hours driving around in the water afraid to stop. More on our stupid summer weather in a later post…

I'd love to hear from you!
