Hello Knitters! Today, I’d like to introduce a fresh new cardigan for spring, Skim. This new spring cardigan is my latest collaboration with the good people at Hudson + West Co, and it just might be my favorite!
Skim, by friend of the flock Cheryl Toy, is a lightweight complement to mild spring weather. Made in our springy + light Weld, this open front, easy wear cardigan features decorative cables at the fronts with easy expanses of stockinette for visual balance. Made from the top down, this elegant saddle shoulder cardigan sits (and stays!) beautifully on the shoulders, meant to pair with everything from a silky slip dress to your favorite trousers and jeans.
An airy, breathable yarn
Concentrating of the airy quality of Weld, Skim is the simplest of all cardigans. Super light and nimble, Skim glides on over anything. It has no closures, but sports deeply ribbed front bands. This is a pared down garment, square and spare, except for a single lovely cable on either side of center. Skim is shaped with classic saddle shoulder construction, a traditional strategy that accommodates the full width of the cable at the shoulder. Skim is edged in deep 2×2 ribbing.
Effortless to make and wear
Skim is worked seamlessly from the top down using a classic saddle shoulder construction method. It begins with the saddle shoulder tabs, then stitches are picked up and cast on to complete the yoke set up and join the shoulder tabs. The yoke is then worked seamlessly to the underarm, then body and sleeves are worked separately to the hem and cuffs. Skim is designed as a slightly oversized layering piece with 4” of positive ease recommended.
Let’s knit it again!
I thoroughly enjoyed knitting this new spring cardigan in “Camel”, a brand new shade for Hudson + West. Pair this versatile color with pink or peach for spring, red or burgundy for fall and winter. It’s a brilliant neutral and a stunning stand-alone shade. I’d love to knit this one again in “Dusk” or maybe “Cabernet”!
