YARN

If you’re a sock knitter, you know that socks take time when they’re worked in fingering weight yarn, the default yarn for sock knitting. If you want the Fastest Socks on Planet Earth, you’ll need to bump up to a heavier yarn like DK or worsted. You’ll want a little nylon or polyamide content for durability and you’ll want a yarn you can wash. I’ve sourced a few great worsted/DK weight sock yarns over the years and I’d like to share them with you.

  • Sandnesgarn Perfect is truly perfect for knitting this type of sock. It is a superwash yarn that is durable and very warm. Comes in a million colors, too. Sandnesgarn yarns are popping up everywhere in Canada lately, but are a little harder to find in the US. It’s quick and easy to order online from Canada, though.
  • Kenzie by HiKoo, made by Skacel, is a truly luxurious blend of fabulous fibers like silk, angora, merino and alpaca. It just might be the perfect tweed yarn! It is soft and fluffy and comes in lots of colors.
  • Knit Picks Chroma Worsted is the yarn for you if you’re interested in a long slow color shift, but it’s a single-ply so might not have the durability for wearing inside boots.
  • From West Yorkshire Spinners comes Aire Valley DK, a hardwearing blend of wool and nylon. It comes in bright shiny solids and self striping colorways.
  • Novita Nalle is a Finnish yarn that is extremely warm. Be aware that this is not a superwash yarn, so you’ll need to care for your socks the same way as your favorite hand knitted sweaters.

I hope you’ll enjoy this little discount and have a happy weekend of sock knitting! 🙂
